Laura Roode is a Tennessee native and an art director in publishing by trade. Her minimalistic paintings of her rural countryside surroundings are both an exploration of color and form as well as the contemplation of tranquility. Laura’s work has been featured in the Bell Buckle Arts and Crafts Fair and at local businesses such as The Wartrace Emporium and Bell Buckle Coffee Shop.
Drawing inspiration from children’s book illustrators, nature, architecture, and mathematics, Laura often begins her artistic process with a photograph that gradually reveals itself as a painting. Laura’s art is often influenced by artists such as David Hockney with his incredibly evocative landscapes achieved through thoughtful and meticulous color play and composition, Ashley Longshore whose work is unapologetically joyful with a keen eye toward design, and Mark Rothko because of his depth in stripped-down color exploration.
Laura currently collects and incorporates interesting color palettes scavenged from fashion, packaging, and other unexpected sources. She says she makes art because “it quiets my mind and allows me to appreciate my world on a deeper level.” Laura is currently creating a cohesive body of work in preparation for the launch of her portfolio and for a solo exhibition.
